Summer Series
-
The 2026 PGJSA Summer Series consists of designated PGJSA Qualifier Regattas hosted by Devon Yacht Club, Mattituck Yacht Club, Old Cove Yacht Club, Orient Yacht Club, Shinnecock Yacht Club, Southampton Yacht Club, and Southold Yacht Club.
There are five (5) Optimist Qualifiers and five (5) ILCA and C420 Qualifiers scheduled for the 2026 season.
Only designated PGJSA Qualifier Regattas will be included in the PGJSA Summer Series standings.
The Shelter Island Yacht Club JSA regattas and other non-PGJSA Qualifier events will not be included in or used to calculate PGJSA Summer Series standings. Certain events may separately count toward PGJSA Championship qualification as provided in PGJSA Championship Qualification, Rules & Scoring.
The PGJSA Championship Regatta is a separate event and does not count toward the Summer Series standings.
-
The PGJSA Summer Series includes the following classes:
Optimist White Fleet
Optimist Blue Fleet
Optimist Red Fleet
C420
ILCA 4
ILCA 6
ILCA 7
Competitors shall meet the applicable requirements contained in PGJSA Classes & Age Eligibility.
-
Competitors must be members of PGJSA through a PGJSA member club to be included in the PGJSA Summer Series standings.
Registration, check-in, withdrawals, refunds, and sail-number reporting requirements are governed by the PGJSA Policies & Procedures and the applicable Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.
-
For a fleet's Qualifier results to count toward the PGJSA Summer Series standings, at least three (3) PGJSA sailors must compete in that fleet.
A sailor must start and attempt to finish at least one race in a Qualifier for that Qualifier to count toward the sailor's Summer Series results.
A Qualifier in which a sailor receives only DNC or DNS scores, or a combination thereof, will not count toward that sailor's Summer Series results.
ILCA sailors shall remain with the rig selected for their first PGJSA Qualifier of the season.
For C420 competitors, the skipper shall remain the same for purposes of the Summer Series. The crew may change.
Team racing at PGJSA fleet-racing events is prohibited. Alleged violations will be handled in accordance with the Racing Rules of Sailing and the applicable Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.
Coaching and support-person activities are governed by the PGJSA Coaching Conditions.
-
*Optmist age rules apply with this exception: Sailors that begin the Series in a fleet shall remain in that fleet regardless of a mid-Series birthday.
*Sailors for all classes may not turn 19 years of age in the year of the event.
-
Each PGJSA Qualifier will be scored using the Low Point System of RRS Appendix A.
When fewer than five (5) races are scored, a boat's series score for that Qualifier will be the total of her race scores.
When five (5) or more races are scored, a boat's series score for that Qualifier will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
Scoring — Summer Series
The final PGJSA Summer Series standings will be calculated using the results from the designated PGJSA Qualifiers.
The number of Qualifier results included in a sailor's Summer Series score will be one fewer than the total number of Qualifiers completed for that fleet.
A sailor who competes in all completed Qualifiers for their fleet will therefore exclude their worst Qualifier result from their Summer Series score.
A Qualifier that is completely cancelled and is not postponed or rescheduled will not be included when determining the number of Qualifiers used to calculate the Summer Series standings.
The PGJSA Championship Regatta, Shelter Island Regatta, and other events designated solely for Championship qualification will not be included in the PGJSA Summer Series standings.
-
The top competitors in each eligible fleet will be recognized and presented with PGJSA Summer Series trophies.
