<image:caption>The support offered is all encompassing with a focus on encouraging Juniors to experience the joy of sailing and an appreciation of the natural resources present on the Eastern End of Long Island. PGJSA promotes the Corinthian spirit of sailing among its participants and encourages the teaching of positive lessons that create self-confidence, foster team work, build character and enable all members to have a life-long love of the sea and its benefits. Using these guiding principles, PGJSA strives to support both serious competition and recreational opportunities for all sailors no matter what skill level. PGJSA encourages members to sail in local venues as well as those outside the area and will offer opportunities for member clubs to share expertise and venues.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A “just-for-fun” event, Cruising the Bays is a day of leisurely sailing with no competition involved. Sailors of all levels of experience are encouraged to join in. Often including on-water games or a scavenger hunt, sailors head to a nearby beach for a picnic or BBQ where they can meet up with sailors from other clubs and share stories of the summer’s events. Cruising the Bays is for PGJSA Member Clubs and invited guests only. Knowledge of the basics of navigating and overall boat handling are required. Sailors will be closely monitored and parents and safety boats are welcome. Please ask your Head Instructor for details.</image:caption>

<image:title>Policies & Procedures - Policies & Procedures</image:title>
<image:caption>Each Member Club entering sailors shall provide a safety boat. Regatta Management Race Time Under ‘Schedule of Events’, all NORs include the sentence “Schedule subject to change pending conditions of the day.” Should weather delay the times of the original schedule, the host club may amend the time of the last race to accommodate an extra race. Regatta Registration Registration for most PGJSA events will be available online only at www.pgjsa.org. Please refer to the Application section of the NORs to determine which regattas your junior sailors must register for online. Registration desks on the day of the specified events will have no paper registration forms or means of accepting entry fees. Registration the day of the event will still be required to be completed online and accepted only up until the start of the scheduled Skippers’ Meeting. All racers are encouraged to register for the regattas as early into the season as possible. All forms and payment must be completed online by 11:59 pm three days prior to the event. Anyone who registers after 11:59 pm three days prior to the event will incur an additional late fee of $20. Cancellation with refund will be permitted up until the scheduled start of the Skippers’ Meeting or by contacting the PGJSA by email (prior to the skippers meeting) indicating you like to withdraw from the event at info@pgjsa.org. Contacting the club and leaving a message or emailing the yacht club is not a proper withdrawal and may not be honored. Regatta Check-In All competitors, both skipper and crew, shall appear in person to confirm registration with regatta management during the designated check-in time. Both skipper and crew must be properly registered and both entry fees paid prior to the scheduled start of the Skippers’ Meeting or their registration will be considered cancelled. The scores may be included for the event but will not be included for the Championship Series. Sail number changes from what appears on the registration form are to be made online by the sailor, not the host club, prior to the first race. In addition, sailors are to report their sail number change to the check in staff and the Race Committee. NB: Sailors who fail to correct their sail numbers will be disqualified. Age Rules: Optimist age rules apply with this exception: Sailors who begin the Series in a fleet shall remain in that fleet regardless of a mid-series birthday. Applicants for all classes may not turn 19 years of age in the year of the event. Scoring Qualifiers: The final standings of each regatta will be calculated using the Low- Point Scoring System-Appendix A of the racing rules. There will throw-outs in the event of 5 races or more have been completed. In the event that a regatta is cancelled completely (and not postponed or rescheduled), a sailor who was registered and checked in at that regatta will still be allowed to qualify for the Championship Regatta in their given class as long as they have received a finishing score in 2 other qualifier regattas. Championship Regatta: The Low-Point Scoring System-Appendix A of the racing rules will be used to calculate the final standings. There will be ONE throw-out if 5 or more races are sailed. PGJSA Championship scoring policies will apply for all classes. The results of the Championship Regatta will be used to the final Series standings as defined by the PGJSA Series Rules and Guidelines. Final rankings will be calculated using Low-Point Scoring. Protests Protesting sailors must properly complete the US Sailing Protest Form at the designated area , including drawings, without supervision or input from their coaches, other sailors or family members. NB: Anyone having done so will have their protest disqualified. Coaches from the protesting clubs may not be present during the protest hearing unless called upon by the Protest Committee. To avoid a witness from a sailor’s own club being considered an interested party, coaches are encouraged to advise their sailors to call out at the time of the incident for witnesses other than from their own club. Race Committee and Protest Committee members are to be mutually exclusive. For all PGJSA Qualifier Events and Championship, the Protest Committee shall be formed by the PGJSA Race Committee Chair or, in his absence, a PGJSA Executive Officer. In the absence of both the PGJSA Race Committee Chair and a PGJSA Executive Officer, the host club’s PRO shall form the Protest Committee from those on the PGJSA Protest Committee Roster. The Protest Committee must consist of at least 3 qualified members. Only 1 member may be from the host club. No member of the Protest Committee is to be from the protesting clubs.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Race Committee reserves the right to disqualify any competitor that is believed to have received coaching assistance during a race. A patrol boat from the host club may rotate between courses to monitor coaching. If a coach needs to be warned, we will do so. A second warning will result in a return to the dock. I. US SAILING AND MID ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP LADDER EVENTS In accordance with US Sailing Conditions, no coaching is permitted during the U.S. Junior Championship and Mid-Atlantic Midget Championship elimination events and no coaches will be allowed on or near the racecourse. II. PGJSA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Coaching will be allowed only between races and is not permitted after a General Recall. Coaches/Instructors are required to register at the regatta and must remain present, available, and reachable for the entire regatta. If coaches want to be on the water, they must provide their own boat. VHF, a First Aid kit and US Coast Guard required safety equipment must be on board. PFD’s must be worn. Coaches, support personnel and spectators are required to keep off the racecourse during the event unless called upon to assist in certain safety conditions. They are required to monitor the Race Committee VHF channel (identified at the Coaches Meeting) and follow any safety instructions issued by the Race Committee. Coaches and spectators shall neither make nor receive radio transmissions or communications of any kind to or from competitors during a race unless in an emergency situation. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones and any other wireless device.</image:caption>
